R3I Consulting specializes in Defence matters but it is also able to offer assistance to a wider client base who may require help with strategic communications issues, planning skills and media relations. Its founder is Paul Smyth, a retired British military officer whose Service career spanned a 25-year period that encompassed operational, training and staff appointments, particularly in a Joint (Tri-Service) environment.
Since leaving the military Paul has worked at both the Advanced Research and Assessment Group (ARAG) at the UK Defence Academy (now part of the Academy's Research and Assessment Branch) and more recently at the internationally renowned Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in Whitehall, London, where he focused on topics relating to the military interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has authored a number of articles, commentaries and papers on operational matters and has provided subject matter expertise to many British and International media (radio, TV and print) organisations.
